About SIMS
Enabling Sustainability for the Global South
Who we are
Sustainability Impacts is a research and action-oriented organization committed to advancing gender equality, reducing inequalities, and promoting decent work across Africa. We are guided by the belief that addressing the structural roots of inequality is essential to building resilient communities and sustainable livelihoods.
Our work is grounded in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs), specifically Goal 5 (Gender Equality), Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). We engage with policymakers, civil society, academic institutions, and grassroots communities to create inclusive and lasting change.
Our Mission
To promote gender equality and reduce social and economic disparities as effective levers for achieving inclusive growth and decent employment opportunities in Africa.
Our Vision
An equitable and inclusive Africa where all individuals, particularly women, youth, and marginalized groups, can access opportunities, participate fully in economic life, and contribute to sustainable development.
Our Philosophy
Our philosophy is built upon three core values that guide our work and define our approach:

Empowerment
We believe in the power of local communities to drive sustainable change. By providing the tools, knowledge, and resources needed, we enable these communities to take charge of their development, ensuring long-lasting and impactful outcomes.
Collaboration
Sustainable development requires a collective effort. We work hand-in-hand with governments, businesses, and other organisations to create synergies that amplify our impact. Through these strategic partnerships, we tackle complex challenges and develop innovative solutions that benefit everyone.
Integrity
Our commitment to integrity ensures that all our actions are transparent, ethical, and driven by a genuine desire to make a difference. We hold ourselves accountable to our stakeholders and the communities we serve, always striving to uphold the highest standards of honesty and responsibility.
What We Do
At Sustainability Impacts, we are dedicated to accelerating sustainable development in the Global South through a multifaceted approach:
- Research for Impact: We conduct evidence-based research that informs policy, drives innovation, and provides practical solutions to complex sustainability challenges. Our work seeks to bridge knowledge and practice in pursuit of equitable development.
- Knowledge Dissemination through Our Journal: Through Sustainability Impacts Review, we disseminate cutting-edge research and amplify underrepresented voices in global sustainability discourse. The journal provides a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue and actionable insights.
- Community-Focused Projects: Our initiatives are designed to empower women, youth, and underserved communities through skills development, sustainable entrepreneurship, and local economic resilience. We prioritize co-creation and community ownership in all our projects.
- Convening for Collaboration: We organize conferences, forums, and capacity-building workshops that foster collaboration among stakeholders across sectors. Our events encourage knowledge exchange and policy dialogue on pressing sustainability issues in Africa and beyond.
