Collaboration

Motivation for Collaboration

The report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change shows that countries in the global south are the most vulnerable region to sustainability challenges and climate change variability because of multiple existing stresses and low adaptive capacity. Existing stresses include political conflicts, ecosystem degradation, etc. More so, climate variability and change are projected to severely affect human basic needs such as health, agricultural production, water and shelter in many of these countries and regions. Toward the end of the 21st century, the projected sea-level rise will likely affect low-lying coastal areas with large populations, including Senegal, Liberia, and Mozambique.

Besides, these challenges are compounded by the high rate of access to reliable and clean energy in sub-Saharan Africa. The region has the lowest energy access rates in the world. Electricity reaches only about half of its people, while clean cooking is only one-third; roughly 600 million people lack electricity and 890 million cook with traditional fuels.

Recognizing the complexities of these challenges, we collaborate with nationally, regionally, and internationally recognized organizations to initiate discussions, projects, and policies that help address them. At SIMS, we build upon the strength of diverse collaborations to deliver on the UN SDGs in countries of the global south.

Collaboration for Transformation

We strongly believe that mutual-benefit collaborations and alliances are critical to our success as they serve as a driving force for a sustainable future for the global south. Thus, we develop and foster active cooperation with academia, governments, industry, media, the public, and other stakeholders to secure sustainability and societal transformation through climate strategies and clean energy policies.

There are many ways you can collaborate with us. It can be a high-priority or long-term collaboration. Our leadership or external partners can take the initiative for collaborations.

(1) Strategic Collaboration

Through bilateral partnerships, we collaborate with leading research institutions worldwide. We want to boost innovations and research in the areas of climate mitigation, adaptation, clean energy transition, and sustainable development. Our goal is to bring together complementary strengths and deepen the roles of organizations and academia in delivering sustainable values to society.

(2) Institutional Collaboration

Collaborations with governments, businesses, media civic society, and other stakeholders not only contribute to a better understanding of sustainable developmental needs but also, they are beneficial for informing policy-making on key climate and clean energy issues. Institutional collaboration strengthens the capacities of the parties involved. Thus, collaborating with us can have positive impacts on your organization and the society
